THE NEW INSTRUMENT FOR FISH-SCALE RISK ASSESSMENT
HELIOS 2 FISHSCALE is an innovative industrial equipment designed to measure the fish scale susceptibility of steels, which can improve the quality control of the vitreous enamel.
HELIOS 2 FISHSCALE can be used as:
- laboratory instrument to evaluate the fish-scale susceptibility in steel for enamelling;
- laboratory instrument to compare enamel performance during forced fish-scale test.
The test method is based on the elaboration of the permeation curve obtained for the examined sheet metal, according to ASTM G148 and ISO 17081.
The UNI11734 Standard describes the HELIOS 2 FISHSCALE methodology.
At the end of the test, the signal which depends on the hydrogen flux through the examined test sample, is processed by proper mathematical codes (on by means of a dedicated panel PC) and an index that the fish-scale defect appears is evaluated. HELIOS 2 FISHSCALE is a completely automated instrument!
The UNI 11734 overcomes the limits of the Standard EN 10209.
The Standard EN10209 uses the “TH” parameter (a function of the break through time, t0) to determine the fishscale susceptibility of steels. This method is not valid for some steels (for instance for Titanium and Boron steels). Moreover the method is based on a partial measurement of the permeation curve, so it does not provide specific indications on steel trapping ability. HELIOS 2 FISHSCALE overcomes these limits and it is able to perform test using a chemicals not restricted by the current REACH norm (such as arsenic trioxide, or mercuric chloride, which are indicated in the EN 10209 Standard electrolyte composition).
Additionally, HELIOS 2 FISHSCALE equipment also includes the possibility to carry out the test method described by the EN 10209.

THE NEW INSTRUMENT FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL HYDROGEN PERMEATION
HELIOS 2 PERMEATION is an innovative laboratory instrument that can measure both permeability and hydrogen diffusion coefficient through metallic steel sheets. HELIOS 2 PERMEATION is suitable for evaluating the effectiveness of barrier coatings for hydrogen flux, which is essential for identifying materials in the new hydrogen economy.
The test is carried out referring to ASTM G148 and ISO 17081 Standards.
The traditional equipment used for this type of experiments is the so-called Devanathan-Stachurski double cell, HELIOS 2 PERMEATION replaces the anodic cell with a probe which contains the hydrogen gas sensor.
HELIOS 2 PERMEATION does not require the passivation preparation of the anodic side of the sample and it can assess also diffusivity and hydrogen flux through the coated samples.
Once acquired, the signal that depends on the hydrogen flux through the examined test sample, is processed by proper mathematical codes (by means of a dedicated panel PC) and hydrogen diffusion parameters are evaluated.

THE NEW INSTRUMENT FOR HYDROGEN ACTIVITY EVALUATION DURING GALVANIC DEPOSITION
HELIOS 2 GALVANIC is an innovative laboratory instrument that can be used to evaluate the hydrogen adsorption during the galvanic processes.
HELIOS 2 GALVANIC can also be used as a laboratory equipment to compare the hydrogen activity of different galvanic baths. The test method is based on the elaboration of the permeation curve obtained for ARMCO Pure Iron sheets using the process conditions applied in galvanic industry (current density, test solution, temperature, liquid circulation, air insufflation, etc.).
Moreover the Instrument can be also used to optimize inhibitors concentration, pickling temperature, help galvanic bath formulators…
