EXPERT IN MATTER

Founded in 2011, by three Full Professors of Industrial Engineering, LETOMEC becomes a Spin-off company of the University of Pisa in 2016.

Technical staff is composed of high skilled engineers and technicians, with years of experience in hydrogen-steel interaction investigations and hydrogen embrittlement phenomena. In 2012, LETOMEC developed HELIOS (Hydrogen Embrittlement Line of Instrument and Operative Sensors), a series of innovative industrial equipment for hydrogen detection and quality control on semi-finished products.

HELIOS is protected by international patent (n. EP2912452) and during the first decade obtained some important awards. “SMAU INNOVATION AWARD” was received in 2016 with HELIOS 2 FISHSCALE, then HELIOS 3 FASTENERS was one of the finalists at the Stuttgart Fastener Technology Innovator in 2019, and finally in 2022, the European Commission Innovation Radar identified HELIOS 4HP as a Tech Ready Market Maturity, with a Very High Potential of Market Creation.

LETOMEC also operates in consultancy and R&D activities, to improve technologies for green hydrogen production through renewable energy sources (electrolysis) and reduction of risks related to hydrogen storage in several sectors (automotive, O&G, etc.).

LETOMEC has a specialized laboratory, dedicated to the study of the effect of hydrogen on materials’ behavior. Recently, capabilities have been extended to gaseous hydrogen environment and and relative mixtures, offering an ever expanding range of testing.
